About the Program

Juilliard Summer Winds is a new two-week online intensive designed specifically for advanced high school instrumentalists ages 13-18 who play flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. A maximum of 15 students will be selected for enrollment for each instrument.

Students will:

  • Watch/participate in master classes and clinics given by acclaimed faculty members and guests
  • Receive two private lessons with a Juilliard faculty member
  • Participate in minicourses that go in-depth on specific topics
  • Watch exclusive, live performances online by renowned faculty artists
  • Learn about the Juilliard and college admissions process
  • Learn a TON about music and their instrument
  • Have fun and make lifelong friends!

Program Dates & Fees

The 2020 Juilliard Summer Winds takes place over 10 days, Monday through Friday, on August 10-14 and August 17-21. Classes begin after 9am EDT and continue through the afternoon, with some evening programming. Online events take place at various times each day with frequent breaks. There are no weekend activities.

  • Students between ages 13 and 18 years old are eligible to apply. 
  • The tuition fee is $1,180 per student and there is a $50 application fee.
  • There is limited financial aid available, and it will be awarded on a need-based adjudication. Applications for financial aid can be completed within the program application online.

Application and Audition Requirements

  • Applications, including recorded audition, are due on July 17, 2020.
  • Accepted students will be notified by July 24, 2020.
  • Tuition is due in full by August 7, 2020.

Introductory Video (all instruments)

Please provide a video introduction (30 - 45 seconds). State your name, age, where you are from, and a brief overview of your background in your instrument.

4) A short musical improvisation created by You! (can include, in addition to your flute, the spoken word, movement, electronics). Not to exceed 1-2 minutes.
